Abstract

Retype is a new way for entering text into a mobile, touchscreen-based device. Most of current text entry implementations use a virtual QWERTY keyboard, which wasn't really designed for input on a 3.5" touchscreen. Retype was built from the ground up to make use of the features of those devices while it respects their limitations. It features gestures for intuitive interaction, a optimized character layout for fast input and ergonomics, and it enables entry in different device orientations. It is designed for high usability, low error rates and even takes up less space than other text entry systems.
